The Smart Technologies to Extend Lives with Linear Accelerators (STELLA) project harnesses particle physics innovations to revolutionize radiotherapy systems. A collaboration between CERN, International Cancer Expert Corps (ICEC), and Oxford University, STELLA aims to address the critical need for accessible cancer treatments in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Cancer disproportionately affects LMICs, where access to radiotherapy is often limited due to high costs, infrastructure requirements, and operational challenges. STELLA is re-engineering particle physics technologies, such as linear accelerators, to create affordable, robust, and sustainable radiotherapy systems suited to these environments.

Through innovation and collaboration, STELLA’s mission is to bridge global health inequities by making life-saving cancer treatments available to all, no matter where they live.
